Our tradition teaches us to be corrupt – Yvonne Nelson

Ghanaian actress and producer, Yvonne Nelson has blamed Ghana’s performance regarding the corruption index growth on customs being passed on from generation to generation.

The actress in a tweet expressed her opinion about the change Ghanaian electorates voted for.

She complained about the Ghanaian tradition which has shamefully increased corruption practices in the country.

Nelson indicated that the Ghanaian beliefs which should impart discipline in the citizens rather teach individuals how to act dishonestly in return for money or personal gain.

“But seriously tho, that change we talk about everyday…… I just can’t see it happening. Not from this side of the world! We are corrupt….our culture/traditions even teaches us to be! Its like everything be bribe for here”

Corruption exists in all branches of Ghanaian government, and there is often a lack of accountability.

Ghana’s performance on the corruption perception index increased by a point to 41 in 2018, from its 2017 score of 40. This left Ghana with a ranking of 78 out of 180 countries; an improvement from 2017’s rank of 81.
