G.P.R.T.U set to sue Ashanti Regional Police Command and Kwadaso Municipal Assembly
The Ghana Private Road And Transport Union (G.P.R.T.U ) branch chairman at Sofoline a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti region Albert Boamah has threatened to sue the Ashanti Regional Police Command, Ashanti Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) and Kwadaso Municipal Assembly over their failure to implement the Road Traffic Legislative Instrument (LI) regulation 2180 and regulation 121.
The regulation 121 (2180) indicates that no person shall operate as a commercial vehicle driver unless that person belongs to a commercial road transport organization or union. Albert Boamah laments that so many drivers are roving the Kwadaso Municipality and causing unwanted traffic jams during the rush hours of the day and simply because they don’t belong to any Union their movement and operations are not regulated.
He said operations of these drivers are in contravention with the law and also affects those who are with registered transport unions. In an interview on Delight Fm’s Morning Show “Me Man Nti” Hosted By Wofa Agyenim Boateng, the chairman said he has notified the appropriate authorities in-charge of the law to implement it and sack all the drivers causing unnecessary traffic jams or else he will sue them in two weeks.
“What are the Municipal executives and the regional police command doing about this disheartening act which may cause peoples’ lives, If in two weeks time they don’t take the appropriate measures we will proceed to court for further interpretations he presaged.
