“Charlotte Osei was disaster; arrogant”- Hassan Ayariga

Leader of All People’s Party (APC) in Ghana, Dr. Hassan Ayariga has chosen current Electoral Commission Boss Madam Jean Mensah over her successor, Charlotte Osei.

Vociferous and fearless politician described Jean Mensah administration as better than that of Charlotte Osei.

He said, “Ghanaians should give her the benefit of the doubt”

“I think Jean Mensah is a good personality. I think that she will learn on the job.

“Definitely, she would make some mistakes, she would be corrected but let’s give her the benefit of the doubt. Allow her to work and to see the reforms she will bring on board”

Speaking on Class FM’s State Of The Nation with Blessed Sogah monitored by GhanaNewsPage.com, Dr Ayariga advised Jean Mensah to be non partisan in her administration.

“I would say that she shouldn’t be too partisan, she she come out with reforms will change the cause of political landscape”

He however, explode and criticize the Charlotte Osei led administration without been intimidated because of the power she wields.

“Charlotte Osei was disaster, I tell you Charlotte didn’t do well and going forward, the room was given to ladies to perform but she abused that powers. For me, I am not happy with her utterances and her level of arrogance when she was the EC Chair”

“Now we have the EC Chair that probably is different, we pray that she would be totally different from what we have in the past and that going forward, Ghana first than any other political party even though she was appointed by his excellency Nana Akuffo-Addo”…he said

Mr Ayariga further added; “Madam Jean Mensah should concentrate on her work for Ghana, and not for the President. She should work for Ghana and not any political party that is how we are going to describe them.

“She use the laws of Ghana to guide her, in her roles as the boss of the EC and to make changes, corrections and reforms that will transform the EC to make it and fair”

How Charlotte Osei was removed

The President on June 28, 2018, dismissed the Chairperson of the Charlotte Osei and her two deputies – Amadu Sulley and Georgina Opoku Amankwa – from office upon the recommendation of a committee set up by the Chief Justice, Justice Sophia Akufo. They were dismissed for procurement breaches and in some cases financial malfeasance.

The committee was set up by the Chief Justice Akuffo, under Article 146(4) of the Constitution, to investigate separate complaints brought by some Ghanaian citizens.

There are currently two cases in court by two private citizens, challenging Charlotte Osei’s removal.

The NDC has maintained that her removal is politically motivated.
